'...A.A.Duncan is OK'

Continues the story of a young Scottish soldier and his family during WWII.

The new book covers the years 1944 to 1946 and includes photographs and Captain Atholl Duncan's eye-witness account of the remains of Nagasaki just 5 weeks after the dropping of the atomic bomb. The titles of both books come from a Japanese propaganda radio broadcast recorded at Zentsuji prisoner of war camp by one of Atholl's friends, 60 years ago next month. American airman, Lieutenant George Armstrong, USAC, recorded his message on 4 November 1943. It was broadcast across the USA two months later and was the first news Atholl's family had directly from him. Meg has an original 78 rpm recording of the message and earlier this year flew to Montana, USA to meet George.
The book contains over 160 pictures and illustrations, the following are just a sample:

This picture, taken over the dashboard of an American Jeep, was taken on or around 16 September 1945, just over a month after the dropping of the 2nd atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. This photograph was taken and then given to A.A.Duncan by one of the American coastguard officers on board the ship
LST 795 was the ship lying at anchor in Nagasaki Bay which was to take A.A.Duncan and others away from Japan on the start of the journey home on 20 September 1945.

This picture shows Dr Glassey (centre) with a midwife on either side and the 9 babies born at St Luke's Hospital, Bradford throughout the day of 15 August, 1945, VJ Day. That was the day that she knew Atholl would soon be on his way home.
